SCHOLARSHIPS

- This working document is a live overview of CPS strategic scholarships that are within the CPS Academic Works tool. Scholarships are organized by the deadlines via the workbook tabs. This resource is intended to encourage and inform Chicago Public Schools students, staff and families of upcoming scholarship and postsecondary program opportunities.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Students should sign up for the Scholarship Email Blasts by emailing CollegeScholarships@cps.edu. The only students who receive the scholarship alerts are students who opt in to receiving the emails. Students, parents and school community should sign up!

Applying for scholarships

Paying for college is made easier when you have scholarships helping to cover some of the expenses. There are many scholarships available for students regardless if you are an academic or sport star!

Here are a few tips for seeking scholarships:

Search and apply early: All Scholarships have their own deadlines so you can apply year round. Start the search early!
Think small: No matter how small a scholarship may seem it adds up! You also have a better chance of receiving smaller awards.
Check Organizations you are affiliated with: Volunteer programs, Churches, and even your parents’ workplace can sometimes have scholarships open only to their members so remember to ask.
Colleges offer their own scholarships: Check online to see what type of aid the colleges you are interested in can offer.

Avoid Scholarship Scams

As a student you should never pay money to receive a scholarship! Never give out personal information such as Bank accounts or credit card numbers! Remember if something seems to good to be true stop and ask someone before submitting anything.
